“You belong among the wildflowers”
“You belong somewhere you feel free”
~Tom Petty
Surrounded by pastoral horse farms, HER home and GARDENS AND studio aRE IN THE he’art’ of Tennessee.
She moves through her garden like someone strolling through a well-loved book—familiar with every chapter, every quiet detail. Though her days of pruning and digging have slowed, the soil still clings lovingly to her fingernails, the backs of her hands freckled from the sun. Once, she tended roses and perennials for her clients, Now, her truest passion blooms indoors—on canvas.
Sunlight filters through her home studio, in Tennessee. where brushes rest in blue ball jars and palettes bear stains of subtle neutrals, and shades of her beloved blues. The studio floor happily spattered with the ghostly drips of previous paintings. Her paintings echo with the life from her garden— herbs, hydrangeas, roses and road side wildflowers and seed heads, live for eternity pressed into the pages of old books. Dried botanicals printed on to whispery tissues and old book pages are scattered about. In every artwork, she cultivates memories from Nature and intuitively layers them with her Cyanotype Photography, Gelli prints, vintage ephemera, charcoal and paint—-every new technique is play for her—-until an ethereal memory reveals itself.
She is a sentimental old fool—-a life long collector of vintage ephemera and the discarded—she has a deep desire to incorporate the past into her work— she layers old sheet music, love letters, Braille, old script, piano roll paper, blue prints, recipe cards, etc. nothing is off limits to adding old soul to her works.
Her gardens are a world she cultivates with patience. Her art is where that world still grows.
In this ever changing world….her calling…
is to awaken, through her art, an ethereal memory of Calm and Retreat.
